Water Consumption

Ragdoll cats, just like all other cats need water to maintain good health. Healthy cats usually feel inclined when they are thirsty and don’t need encouragement from their human companions; however in some cases it may be necessary for you help out by encouraging your furry friend to have a drink.

Cats can sometimes forget about thirst if there have been many hours without any liquids consumed at all so make sure not only do I give them food but also plenty of fresh clean drinking water throughout each day!

Homemade Food and Raw Meat Diet

Cats are carnivores, so they need a source of animal protein to be in optimal health. While it’s perfectly acceptable to feed your cat dry or wet food at home you can offer variety by purchasing fresh cooked meats from the store as well!

Your cat food supplier may also have a range of raw meats available.  It is always better to provide your cat with an approved raw meat product for cats as they are also susceptible to bacteria just like us humans.

Food Allergies

Ragdoll cats cats don’t suffer from any specific allergies.  You should still be vigilant to ensure that they don’t develop any uncommon allergies.

Diet Plan

Ragdolls are the type of cats that really benefit from having a strict diet plan.  Because of their fluffy and long hair, most owners prefer have them as indoor cats to prevent getting themselves too dirty and to protect the coat.  Because of this, they may not be getting the level of exercise that they would in the wild.  This lack of activity can result in a reduction in calorie burning so a strict diet is highly recommended.

Protein

Ragdoll cats are carnivores and because of this, they require a diet that is high in animal based protein.  Ragdoll cats are not able to synthesise Taurine which is an amino acid that they need to extract from animal protein.  This should not be confused with plant based protein.

Carbohydrates

Carbohydrates is another component of a healthy diet.  You need to take care to not include too many carbohydrates as this can lead to weight gain.  Try to use common sense here.  Consult your vet on the ideal weight for your cat and then regulate the amount of food to keep that weight. This is specially important if your cat is an indoor cat as they won’t be getting the amount of exercise they would in the wild.

Wet vs Dry Food

A combination of wet and dry food is recommended with dry food being provided at least 3 times per week to help in keeping their teeth clean.  When they bite into the dry food, it can help to scratch away plaque buildup on their teeth.

Human Foods

Ideally, you should keep human food away from all cats.  Some of the most innocent looking food can be fatal to your cat so the best advice is to keep all human food away from them.  Unless you are following a home-made cat food recipe from a trusted source, you should stick to commercially available cat food as it has been cleared for consumption.  Some of the things that are dangerous to cats can be found here.

How Many Calories Should Maine Coon Cats Consume?

As a general rule Ragdoll cats should consume around 360 kcal per day for a healthy 15 pound cat. Ragdoll cats are one of the larger domestic cats and so will eat more than a smaller cat.

These are general number that vary significantly.  The best way to get an exact calorie intake for your cat is to consult your vet which will determine the right intake of calories based on, gender, age, health, etc.
